Prompt: Describe a time when someone’s words had a lasting impact on you.

Prompt Response: One time someone had a lasting impact on me with their words was when my dad told me that it was okay if I failed at something as long as I tried my best. This really resonated with me because I never wanted to fail at something because I didn't want to make my parents upset. But after he told me this I realized that my parents wouldn't be upset as long as they saw that I tried my hardest. This left a lasting impact on me for a very long time.   Summary: We wrote our blog post. Reflection: We wrote our blog post.

Prompt: Today, you had the opportunity to express yourself through poetry. Reflect on your creative writing process. What did you find most enjoyable or challenging about turning your thoughts into a poem? Did this assignment change the way you think about poetry or creative writing? Explain your experience.

Prompt Response: I enjoyed how much the assignment really made me think about how to fit my words together. Keeping a consistent rhyme scheme while also adding figurative language and matching that with my poem topic was a challenge. But brainstorming the right words that would fit those lines was kind of fun in a way. It definitely made me value poetry more as I understood how in depth the creation process was.   Summary: We created our own poems. Reflection: I gained insight on how to structure and create a poem.

Prompt: Write about a moment when you had to step out of your comfort zone.

Prompt Response: One time I had to step out of my comfort zone was when we cooked food in culinary arts for the first time. I had never really cooked food before that so it was definitely a learning experience for me. It was a little hard to learn at first because it was different from things that I had done before. But after getting more experienced with it I actually enjoy it a lot. It pushed me to decide to go through the whole culinary arts pathway.   Summary: We worked on constantly risking absurdity questions. Reflection: I learned about the deeper meanings behind the style and structure of the poem.

Prompt: Talk about a time when you had to write a poem, whether it was for an assignment, event, or special occasion. What was the writing process like for you, and were you proud of the finished product?

Prompt Response: I had to write a bunch of poems for my final project in ELA in 8th grade. All of them were in a different style, and I learned about how these different styles were structured. The process was fun, as I had to think of how to write in so many different styles about different things. It was hard to get the hang of it but it got easier after a bit. I was very proud of the finished project and I got a 100.   Summary: We worked on questions for constantly risking absurdity.  Reflection: I read and analyzed the style of constantly risking absurdity.

Prompt: Today, your group had to work together to earn 100% on the “A Worn Path” assessment or write an essay. How did this challenge affect the way your group discussed the story and made decisions? What did you learn from the experience?

Prompt Response: This challenge definitely made us consider our answers more. We had to sit there and go over every answer until we agreed on each one. We had to do this to make sure that we got every answer correct. I learned that other people's perspectives can be very different from your own and it can give you a different view on things. It was good for us to work together on this assessment so we could make sure that we really understood the things in the story.   Summary: We took a test on a worn path. Reflection: I tested my comprehension of the story and my teamwork skills.

Prompt: In A Worn Path, Phoenix faces several obstacles as she makes her way toward her destination, but she continues because she has an important reason for completing her journey. Think about a time when you had to travel somewhere or work through obstacles to reach a destination or goal. What challenges did you face along the way? Was the journey worth it in the end? Explain why or why not.

Prompt Response: One time I had to read a bunch of books for this competition, but I waited and I only had days left with no books read. So I decided to power through and read every single book for hours on end to finish in the time that I had. It was very difficult because I often was staying up very late into the night to finish a book. In the end I was able to finish all of the books in time, it was tough but I got through them all. It was definitely worth it because it ended up working out.    Summary: We worked on a worn path. Reflection: I learned about the deeper meaning of the Themes in the story.

Prompt: In “A Worn Path,” Phoenix has a memorable encounter and conversation with the hunter during her journey. Think about a conversation you have had that had a lasting impact on you. What was the conversation about, and how did it change your thinking, perspective, or actions?

Prompt Response: One time I had a conversation about getting in to college. This really changed my perspective because I had never thought about it so deeply before. I learned how many different steps there are in preparing yourself to apply. This changed how I thought about the future because I now had to account for all of my college preparation. This definitely influenced my actions more towards preparing myself to make sure that I am ready.   Summary: We worked on a worn path. Reflection: I learned about the deeper meaning of the story.
